Gostilna pri Škafarju
Homestyle Flavors in a Mining House
Local flavors in a miner’s house
A restaurant in the heart of Idrija, where local delicacies take center stage, where the seasons are reflected on your plate, and where everyone who comes hungry—whether for food or peace—is welcome. Gostilna pri Škafarju is a pleasant stop for all visitors: whether you’re exploring the town, passing through, or simply craving a meal that captures the essence of the region.
At Škafar,
tradition is part
of everyday life.
The focus is on homemade recipes, the flavors of Idrija, and dishes prepared with care. When you sit down at the table, the pace of the day slows down. You get a meal that captures the essence of the place, and a space where you can easily linger a little longer.
And when you leave, you’re left with the feeling that you’ve experienced Idrija in yet another way.
In the heart of the town.
Discover Idrija, a town renowned for its rich lace-making and mining heritage.
How to find us: As you arrive in Idrija, turn left at the second traffic-light intersection toward the town center. Follow the signs for Antonijev rov, then turn right across the small bridge at the intersection in front of the building. Park at the old town square (Ahacijev trg) or nearby, and take a short walk to Gostilna pri Škafarju.
Flavors that tell a story.
We cook with ingredients we trust: Slovenian and locally sourced. That’s why the seasons are reflected in our cuisine. Our menu brings together tradition and the present: flavors that tell the story of Idrija.
At Škafar, Idrija-style žlikrofi and other Idrija specialties (bakalca, smukavc, zeljševka—also seasonal) are right at home, along with a selection perfect for any day: snacks, lunches, and even wood-fired pizzas. In short: local, warm, home-style, and diverse enough to suit every taste.
Sometimes you wish you could take a piece of Idrija with you.
That’s why Škafar also has space for a small shop selling local products—for those moments when you want to take a taste or a little souvenir home (or give it as a gift).
This is a selection of foods with a story behind them: made by hand, with skill and a sense of local heritage. Here you’ll find selected local delicacies and products—something for the road, something for your table at home, something for a gift. Perfect if you’re only in Idrija for a short time but still want to take a piece of the local story with you: one you can open, taste, and share.
